A few days ago was the 65th anniversary of the lifting of the seige of Leningrad, also known as the blockade. The Germans laid siege to the city from September 9, 1941, to January 27, 1944, when a narrow land corridor to the city was established by the Soviets. It is also called the 900 day siege. Over a million people died in the city from starvation, bombardment and exposure. Actually, in what is now our apartment seven people died during the siege.
These photos are amazing. Photographer Segei Larenkov has transposed photos from the siege onto contemporary pictures of the same spot.
